Financial troubles have caused Flatbread Company to close their Bedford location after 18 years in business on Monday, June 26, according to the restaurant's website. The company said the location is "no longer viable" as the restaurant industry has drastically changed.

"We regretfully reach out to let you know that unfortunately our fires are out and will not be relit," a statement on the restaurant's website reads. "We can no longer continue to keep our fires burning to see what the long-term future holds."

Flatbread opened their Bedford location in 2005. The chain used to have locations in Brighton, Somerville and Salem that were eventually sold to American Flatbread, Boston Restaurant Talk reports. The only remaining Flatbread Company is in Amesbury.

"Rest assured of two things: not only are we making sure that our valued team members are well taken care of but also, we will continue to look for alternative locations within Bedford and the surrounding communities to make a return in the future as quickly as we can," the restaurant's statement continued. "Until that time, we hope you renew your spirit by joining us for the very best pizza that we can imagine at our original hearth in Amesbury, MA or one of our other homes.

The chain also has locations in North Conway, New Hampshire, Paia, Maui, Hawaii, Portland, Maine, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Providence, Rhode Island, and Whistler in British Columbia.
